Travelling to Shepherds Bush?

Hi, im travelling to shepherds bush next month to visit shepherds bush empire for a gig. I just have a few questions that i hope some of you can answer as im not from london and have only visited a couple of times. I was just wondering:

- What actually is 'Shepherds Bush'? I know it has the SB Empire and a theatre but what is shepherds bush? Is it a village? or a complex hall? or what?

-What is the easiest way to travel to shepherds bush by train? like which is the closest station, do i need to travel by underground too etc. (im staying at a guesthouse in aldine street if that helps)

I think the underground is closed at shepards bush for engineering works. I could be wrong. Check on the TFL website.

And by the way, shepards bush is a shlthole! Its also where the BBC tv studios are. You may need to bring some anti-depressants with you!!!
it is a very dangerous place,dont go alone and try not to go in the dark as it is mugger's paradise and worse!!!! the central line tube is closed down for refurbishment,so the only way into sb is by bus which are equally as dangerous!!!!
keep your hand on your wallet, speak to no one don't make eye contact. Avoid crowds dark places, quiet places, dress dowdy or better still as a man and have a lovely time at the show.
Its an area in west London. Not a very nice area to be honest so as the first guy said, don't make eye contact with anyone, keep your head down and look after your belongings. That makes it sound like its absolutely horrible which is not the case, but its not one of London's nicer neighbourhoods. Its on the Central and Hammersmith and City Lines, so your route depends on what train station your train arrives at.
