Im 13 and want to sing and dance?

hey i know i have already posted a question like this but what the hell ill do another one. I ant to devote my ife to being in musicals but i dont know what to do. I am more into singing musical numbers than pop or hip-hop. There are no local theatre companies for young people where i live and where i live not many people do this sort of thing. And whenever you see those dancers they are really skinny and im only slim. I love the theatre with all my heart and i have a real dilemma here. I also want to go on cruise ships in their theatre companies but you need real experience. All the good places i have searched on the internet come up as London. Help!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! If you have auditions going for real musicals please tell me. I'm 13 in Julyand my e-mail address in tweety_pie_065?@hotmail.co.uk. Thank you

Firstly, NEVER give out your email address on a public forum like this! Think of the worst slimy being that ever had a computer anywhere in the world, and they could be writing YOUR email address down right now!

Second, get yourself off to a local dance school - one that will take latecomers. It will give you poise, energy and confidence.

Re: your voice:- There are some excellent Books with CDs to help you develop your vocal talents; I would recommend The Contemporary Singer by Anne Peckham, which has some challenging vocal exercises and explains the whole voice thing in detail.

Do all this, and record your voice without backing music and play it back to yourself so you can see where you need to improve (you can start by recording into a microphone while listening to the backing music on headphones, but you also need to do it solo - X-factor audition style!).

I wish you luck.
Firstly honey, forget the whole 'skinny' thing, you're thirteen years old and being skinny is not an indicator of talent - look at the girl who has just won a best actress gong for being in 'hairspray'. To have the stamina and fitness to be in musicals, all you need to do is have a decent diet and do some regular exercise. Also, why don't you speak to someone at school about putting on a musical there at the end of term or at christmas etc...Put some posters up asking if anyone is interested in musical theatre and get some of them together. It would look great if you could say you initiated and helped organise a musical at your school and you could even see about putting it on for parents for charity. Instead of giving your e-mail address, why don't you just put the rough area where you live and i'm sure people will be able to tell you about theatres and workshops etc... going on in your area - there's always something if you're interested.
Ask your performing arts / drama teacher at school - he / she may know of local groups you could get involved with.

Try Stagecoach or similar groups, which are based all round the country.

Take performance-based subjects at GCSE then apply to a performing arts college.
If there is absolutely NO drama facilities (which I highly doubt...you can normally find them everywhere, even if you just have to look a bit harder and deeper), then why don't you try talking to your teachers at school or at the local library abou STARTING ONE YOURSELF? There may not be many people, but there is probably SOMEONE, and believe it or not, you don't need all that many people. You can do Godspell (the musical) with 10 people or less!!

Also, dancers aren't always skinny. Being skinny isn't the point: you just have to be immensely fit and quite flexible. Don't feel pressured! You're not even thirteen, and you have time. Take drama and music etc for GCSE and A-Level and you will get places if you truly have the determination and talent

=)

Good luck!!
The problem with most youngsters is that they ignore the harsh reality of the performing arts!

Without TALENT and the ability to sing in tune (!) you will get nowhere!

One only needs to look at the awful auditions for "The X Factor" to see what I mean!

Nor is being "good" at Karaoke a recommendation!

If you REALLY think you have what it takes, have a word with your local performing agencies. You will find them all in Yellow Pages. THEY will soon put you right........... and IF you REALLY have talent, I've no doubt they will fall over themselves to get the right contacts and coaching!
Hehe i live in London! Im into acting more but i sympathise with you. Just keep at it and you will eventually get what you want. Why not ask your drama/music teacher at school? They will most likely know what to do with you! Dont worry and dont despair you are still only young and you have your whole life ahead of you!
