40th Birthday coming up!?

I turn 40 (gulp) on the 18th December, to be precise, and I would like to spend the day in London with my husband. I was thinking of an exhibition or the theatre with lunch or just a fun thing to do or a good thing to visit - a good lunch is mandatory - any one got any recommendations of what to do or where to eat? Many Thanks

I don't know what your tastes run to for the theatre, but if you check:

it will give you a few options.

For lunch, I'd recommend the Wolseley. It's got fab architecture, really special, and it's in a central location. I went there for my birthday and loved it. It's also close to the National Gallery etc.

You might want to consider afternoon tea at the Ritz or Claridges, and ice skating at Somerset House for something a bit different.

And for drinks in the evening, try cocktails at the American Bar at the Savoy for it's history or Vertigo 42 for it's views.

I hope you have a wonderful time - happy birthday!

PS - you might want to mention to your husband that Tiffany's is on the corner of Sloane Square and Sloane Street...!

If you want to go see a show, see Wicked. It's the story of the witches of Oz before Dorothy drops in. Brilliant, brilliant show!
Have you done all those things you had to do b4 you were 40
whatever else you do, have huge amounts of fun.

Life does NOT begin at forty, but you start taking yourself less seriously - you realise that you've missed the "dirty thirties" as they went whooshing past your head at supersonic speed and start concentrating on your "naughty forties".

You will wake up on Dec 19th even prettier than you were when you went to bed on the 18th.

Happy Birthday.
Choose where you are going to visit, then decide where to eat. There are enough good restaurants in London.
I am 33 years old but 40 must rock
Chicago - the musical, is my recommendation. It's superb. And happy 40th! I wish I was 40 again.

(Book ASAP if you decide on any West End show - the best tickets go weeks in advance).
Gordons wine bar is a fabulous place to spend an afternoon while waiting for the theater. It is very dark and quiet and serves tons of very interesting varieties by the glass. You will love it!!

It is located at the embankment stop of the tube. Just walk a tiny bit up the hill (away from the river) and it is in a small building on your right. Have fun and Happy birthday!!!!
have a look here for some good ideas

Firstly....its just a number, dont stress about it, I live in london and my favourite resturant is Scallini's on Walton Street in Knightsbridge, its wonderful, the food is exceptional, the staff are fantastic and if they know its a special birthday / occassion, they will really make a fuss of you. You could do the London Eye perhaps and take in a show and then go onto Scallini's. Whatever you decide to do, enjoy.
When I visit London I always go to O'neills on Euston Road.
hope you enjoy your day.and have a very happy birthday when it comes
haha when i turned 40 i visited the london dungeon. strange place you may think but it was somewhere i had wanted to go for ages. also as we had takent the kids with us, we went to macdonalds to eat, how romantic lol
Try toptable.com. They'll have something to suit whatever you want. You can search by area, type of food, price, occasion etc and it has detailed info on menus and reviews. You can even take a look around the restaurants.

Have a great birthday!
Go on the London's eye. Hope you have a brilliant day whatever you decide to do.
